In the heart of Maryland, within the academic corridors of Towson University, students and faculty alike know Dr. Raza Hasan not just as an educator, but as a quiet force of guidance, compassion, and purpose.
Born in Pakistan, Raza Hasan’s early life was shaped by perseverance and a thirst for knowledge. After completing his Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from Western Illinois University (1985–1988)—where he was an active member of the Student Government Association—he went on to earn a Master of Science in Management Information Systems from the University of Baltimore (1990–1992). During those years, he also assisted the International Program Office, helping new international students settle into a new land and culture—an early reflection of his lifelong calling to serve others.
His intellectual journey culminated in a Doctor of Science in Information Technology from Towson University (2008–2012), a milestone that marked not just academic achievement but also a deeper mission: to use technology as a tool for human betterment.
Raza’s career began with entrepreneurial spirit. As President & CEO of Surbun Technical Services (2000–2004), he launched an IT consulting firm in the Washington DC–Baltimore area, providing integration and technology services to diverse clients.
From there, his journey led him to RWD Technologies, where he served as Senior Technical Consultant and Project Manager (2006), and to the University of Maryland, Baltimore, where he worked as a Data Analyst, DBA, and Trainer (2004–2008)—offering analytical and technical expertise to support research and innovation.
In June 2008, he joined Towson University as a Project Manager and Adjunct Professor, roles he has faithfully upheld for over 17 years. In that time, he has mentored hundreds of students, bridging theory with practice, and ensuring that each lesson in information systems carried a trace of ethics, humility, and care for the human element behind every data point.
Beyond academia, Dr. Hasan has lived the Qur’anic principle of service and stewardship. He has long been connected with the Islamic Society of Baltimore (ISB) and Al-Rahmah School Educational Trust (ASET), contributing to educational growth, community programming, and youth development.
He is also a board member of the Pakhtoon American Community Association (PACA)—a non-political, non-religious organization that fosters cultural understanding, civic responsibility, and humanitarian outreach. Whether mentoring young professionals or helping coordinate community events, Raza’s presence has always carried the same qualities: humility, reliability, and quiet strength.
In all his endeavors—academic, professional, or social—Raza Hasan’s compass has been faith. The verse he often reflects upon is:
“And whatever you spend in good, He will replace it. And He is the best of providers.”— (Surah Saba, 34:39)
To him, this verse is not just about wealth, it is about time, effort, and knowledge. Every hour spent mentoring, every act of helping a student or community member, is a form of sadaqah jariyah—a continuing charity whose blessings ripple through generations.
