Our Mission
The mission of Muslim Citizens of Maryland (MCM) is to collect, preserve, document, celebrate, and share the history and contributions of Maryland’s Muslim community while strengthening connections among generations and encouraging service to the broader society.
- Preserve the stories of Maryland’s Muslim pioneers, families, and community builders.
- Document the development of masajid, schools, institutions, businesses, charities, and community organizations.
- Record personal narratives reflecting the cultural, ethnic, professional, and generational diversity of Muslim life in Maryland.
- Create accessible historical resources for families, students, educators, journalists, researchers, and institutions.
- Encourage younger generations to understand and appreciate the foundations established before them.
- Promote volunteerism, charitable service, education, and civic responsibility.
- Build stronger relationships among Maryland Muslims across communities and backgrounds.
- Recognize contributions to Maryland society by Muslims in education, medicine, business, public service, technology, social services, academia, and other fields.
Our Vision
We envision a Maryland where every Muslim—elder and youth, immigrant and native-born, convert and lifelong Muslim—can recognize themselves as part of a larger collective story.
We envision a community where history is professionally preserved, pioneers are remembered with dignity, institutions understand their roots, and younger generations inherit more than buildings—they inherit the stories, values, sacrifices, and responsibilities behind them.
MCM seeks to honor the past while helping prepare a confident, compassionate, informed, and service-oriented generation for the future.
