Our Story

From Memories to a Maryland Muslim Archive

MCM grew from years of listening.

Elders remembered the early gatherings. Families preserved photographs. Community pioneers recalled how prayer spaces, masajid, schools, organizations, charities, businesses, and social institutions were established—often with limited resources but extraordinary determination.

Many of these stories had never been formally recorded. MCM began collecting them.

Interviews led to photographs. Photographs led to documents. Documents revealed timelines. Timelines uncovered people whose contributions had nearly disappeared from public memory.

What began as historical documentation gradually developed into a broader effort to preserve the collective experience of Maryland Muslims.

Today, MCM seeks to create a permanent digital home for those stories while encouraging Maryland’s younger generations to continue writing the chapters that follow.
