Maryland’s Muslim story has been shaped by generations of faith, perseverance, service, sacrifice, and community building.
From enslaved Africans who carried Islam to Maryland centuries ago, to early Muslim families, converts, immigrants, professionals, educators, entrepreneurs, activists, and community leaders, Muslims have contributed to Maryland’s social and civic fabric across generations.
Muslim Citizens of Maryland (MCM) is a community-driven initiative dedicated to documenting this history, preserving its voices, recognizing those who helped build it, and connecting that legacy with the generations who will carry it forward.
MCM brings together history, storytelling, education, community service, civic engagement, and public participation in one statewide platform.
Our purpose is simple: Remember the past. Serve the present. Prepare the future.
Keep the stories coming
This history was gathered by volunteers, from people who were never asked for it before. Your giving funds the service work behind it — and the next hundred stories.
Preserving the Past. Connecting the Present. Inspiring the Future.
Our history is not finished.
Every generation adds another thread.
Together, we preserve the story. Together, we carry it forward.
