In the heart of Westminster, Maryland, Dr. Sohaila Ali's hands have saved countless lives. As a triple-board certified surgeon, she has navigated the intricate pathways of the human body with precision and care—repairing aneurysms, restoring blood flow to limbs, removing cancerous tumors from lungs and esophagus. Her journey from Khyber Medical College to becoming Past President of Medical Staff at Carroll Hospital Center is a testament to dedication and excellence.
But alongside her husband, Syed Mohsin Ali Hassan, PhD—a scholar whose wisdom spans horizons—Dr. Ali understood a profound truth: while she could heal bodies, there was another kind of healing, another kind of legacy that would outlive them both.
Together, they planted a seed at the Islamic Society of Baltimore (ISB) that would bloom into something extraordinary. They envisioned young hearts filled with the words of Allah, voices carrying the Quran's verses across generations. With their financial support and unwavering commitment, they sponsored Qari Mohammed Zahid and Qari Mohammed Abid to come to America, establishing the Hifz ul Quran program.
The moment young Hafiz Hammad H. completed his memorization of the entire Quran became a watershed for the community. But he was only the first. Hundreds would follow—each one a living library of divine wisdom, each one a continuation of the charity (sadaqah jariyah) that flows back to Dr. Ali and her husband long after their initial gift.
While Dr. Ali performed surgeries that would extend lives by years, she and Mohsin were nurturing souls in ways that would echo through eternity. And they raised three sons—Dr. Syed Umar Hassan, Syed Bilal Hassan, and Dr. S Junaid Hassan —who carries forward this spirit of service in their own unique ways.
Their story reminds us that true success is measured not only in professional achievements, but in the legacy we leave in hearts and minds, in the knowledge we preserve, and in the paths we create for others to walk toward the Divine.
