Born and educated in Pakistan, Dr. Mohsin Ansari brought both ambition and a spirit of service with him when he arrived in the United States. As he describes himself, “I am a Muslim American, physician by profession, and I am constantly looking for opportunities to get involved in the healing process in all aspects of human life.”
Dr. Ansari trained as a pediatrician and neonatologist at MetroHealth Medical Center/Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. He later established his medical practice in Maryland, serving communities in locations such as Windsor Mill and Salisbury. In his care for children and families, he focused not only on treating illness but also on promoting overall wellness.
This foundation in medicine was the bedrock for his ongoing commitment to serving others, both individually and collectively. His medical profession naturally led him into broader roles in civic, social, and faith-based leadership.
While advancing his medical career, Dr. Ansari devoted himself to Muslim community work across North America. Over the years, he served in numerous capacities within the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), including as Chairman of both ICNA Relief and Helping Hand USA, its relief arm. In January 2021, he was elected President of ICNA for the term 2021–22 and re-elected for 2023–24.
During his leadership, ICNA placed a strong emphasis on social justice, community welfare, interfaith outreach, and fostering partnerships that extended beyond the Muslim community. For instance, the annual ICNA-MAS convention, co-organized with the Muslim American Society under his presidency, addressed themes of education, character development, civic engagement, and pressing social issues.

His involvement in the faith community also extended to local initiatives, connecting him with one of the most prominent centers of Muslim civic and religious life in the Baltimore region—an institution closely linked to his wider community engagement.
Dr. Ansari’s story is not limited to caring for his patients and his Masjid; he has consistently sought to build bridges—between faith and society, Muslims and non-Muslims, and the local and national civic spheres.
Interfaith outreach formed a central part of his work. In interviews, Dr. Ansari spoke of his desire to participate in “the healing process in all aspects of human life,” which naturally included engaging with people of other faiths and perspectives.
“And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression.” (Surah Al-Mā’idah, 5:2)
In national Muslim organizations, he entered into dialogue on social justice, public policy, the American Muslim identity, and the intersection of faith and public life, often at national conventions.
Dr. Ansari’s commitment to service is evident in his voluntary work alongside his professional duties, whether through relief efforts with ICNA Relief and Helping Hand, or his local clinics and family support initiatives. The motto “Healthy Child makes Healthy Nation” sums up his approach to pediatrics and community health.
He has also invested in youth and student engagement, drawing on his experience with the Muslim Students Association (MSA) and nurturing future leaders. He has spoken about his own sons’ active roles in ICNA’s work.
Dr. Mohsin Ansari’s life illustrates how one individual can hold multiple complementary roles: physician, parent, community leader, civic actor, and interfaith bridgebuilder. He demonstrates that professional expertise can be a platform for wider societal engagement; that faith communities have an active role in public life; that building bridges requires both local commitment and a broad vision; and that serving children, community, and society are deeply interconnected endeavors.
