Masud ur Rahman Syed’s journey began in 1973 when he arrived in the United States with a heart full of hope and a vision for a better future. Like many who crossed oceans in search of opportunity, he carried with him not only ambition but also the luminous teachings of Islam—teachings he spent a lifetime sharing with both Muslims and non-Muslims.
With his beloved wife, Shamim, by his side, Masud ur Rahman built a home centered on faith, discipline, and service. Together they raised three sons, shaping them with the values of humility, resilience, and devotion that defined their parents’ lives.
Professionally, he served the State of Maryland as a civil engineer for over two decades. His work was marked by integrity, diligence, and a deep sense of responsibility toward the public good. But beyond his career, his heart remained anchored in the Masjid.
Every morning before dawn, the doors of Masjid Al-Rahmah opened quietly—and often, it was Masud ur Rahman who turned the key. He gave the adhan with sincerity, maintained the daily routine of the Masjid, and became a familiar and comforting presence for worshippers who found in him the embodiment of steadfast devotion.
His commitment extended far beyond the walls of the Masjid. He was deeply engaged in Tabligh work, traveling regularly, hosting groups from around the world, and inspiring others toward faith, remembrance, and righteous action. His home became a place of welcome, his words a source of encouragement, and his life a model of what it means to live Islam with sincerity.
One of his enduring gifts to the community was establishing the tradition of reading Hadith after Maghrib and Isha—a practice that still continues, nurturing hearts and strengthening faith across generations.
Those who knew him speak of his exceptional self-discipline, unwavering devotion to Allah, and tireless commitment to both his family and community. His legacy lives on—not only in the initiatives he began, but in the character and accomplishments of his children, who carry his values forward.

“As for those who believe and do righteous deeds, We will settle them in lofty chambers of Paradise beneath which rivers flow, to live therein forever—how excellent is the reward of those who work righteousness.” (Surah Al-Ankabut 29:58)
