In 1967, a young woman named Shahida Siddiqi graduated from the prestigious King Edward Medical University in Lahore, carrying not just a medical degree but also the weight of dreams larger than herself. Her journey brought her across continents, where she would spend over four decades healing, guiding, and serving.
As a physician, Dr. Siddiqi built her expertise in treating dementia, hypertension, diabetes, and other conditions that deeply affect families. Patients recall her not merely for prescriptions and check-ups but for her patience, kindness, and determination to preserve dignity in illness.
But it was beyond the hospital walls that Dr. Siddiqi’s light shone even brighter. She co-founded and directed the Community Health Clinic of the Islamic Society of Baltimore (ISB), providing free services to the uninsured and underinsured. Seniors at the Golden Age Village (GAV) remember her workshops on dementia awareness—gentle talks that brought clarity to confusion and hope to anxious hearts. In partnership with Baltimore County’s senior health programs, she gave voice to the struggles of elders, reminding the community that caring for the weak is a measure of faith.
Her leadership at ISB was equally remarkable. As a board member, she was part of pivotal decisions that shaped the community’s future. Former ISB president Dr. Habib Ashruf once remarked, “If it were not for Dr. Shahida Siddiqi and Rafia Siddiqi, we wouldn’t have had enough votes to move forward with building the multipurpose hall.” It was women like her—wise, steadfast, and fearless—who secured the foundation of ISB’s growth.
At home, she raised a family rooted in faith and service. Alongside her husband and children, she nurtured an environment where education, humility, and community service thrived. Her children absorbed her values, later standing at the forefront of community support—whether financial, moral, or personal. Their strength and humility were the living proof of the foundation she laid.
A Legacy Rooted in Faith
Dr. Shahida Siddiqi’s story is one of balance: professionalism guided by compassion, family strengthened by tradition, and community uplifted by sacrifice.
Her legacy continues each time a senior at GAV finds comfort in her advice, each time a patient at the free clinic receives treatment without worry about cost, and each time ISB flourishes on the decisions she helped shape.
“O Allah, grant Dr. Shahida Siddiqi barakah in her knowledge, her family, and her service. Accept her years of dedication as sadaqah jariyah (a continuous charity), and place light in her path in this world and the Hereafter.”
