A Living Chronicle of Maryland’s Muslim Community
Muslim Citizens of Maryland was created from a simple but urgent realization: Maryland’s Muslim history is rich—but much of it remains scattered.
Important stories have survived in family albums, handwritten records, institutional files, old photographs, newsletters, meeting minutes, newspaper clippings, personal memories, and oral traditions. As generations pass and institutions evolve, some of that history is at risk of disappearing.
MCM works to bring these scattered threads together. Through interviews, historical research, archival preservation, publications, photographs, institutional histories, community partnerships, and digital storytelling, MCM is building an accessible record of Muslim life in Maryland.
But MCM is more than an archive. It is also a platform for connecting Maryland Muslims across generations, professions, ethnicities, economic backgrounds, and communities while encouraging volunteerism, charitable service, education, civic participation, and responsible public engagement.
We believe that knowing where we came from helps us better understand where we are going.
