Muslim Citizens of Maryland is a platform that unites Maryland Muslims — entrepreneurs, academics, social activists, professionals and citizens — to foster synergy and advocate for fair representation in public policy and economic domains at local, state and national levels.
We are organized around working groups covering mental and behavioral health, public policy, community development, and social welfare services.
To cultivate the younger generation of Maryland Muslims into a viable collective forum — one that includes citizens of all shades and economic backgrounds. We emphasize continuous charity, volunteering and public service, aiming to enhance the well-being of the broader community, Muslim and non-Muslim alike.
MCM was founded by Syed Abid Husain, a writer, historian and community leader. Born in India, raised in Pakistan and rooted in Maryland since 1984, he has devoted over forty years to activism, education, interfaith dialogue and public service. He is also the founder of Qaasid News and the Ujaala Education System.
His book, Muslim History in Maryland, preserves community narratives that exist nowhere else.
