The Generation

Front cover of The Generation, compiled by Syed Abid Husain and Muhammad Jameel

An Institutional History of the Islamic Society of Baltimore (ISB), 1967–2026

The Generation is the institutional history of the Islamic Society of Baltimore, one of the oldest Muslim institutions in Maryland. It runs from the living-room gatherings of the late 1960s to the community ISB serves today: the borrowed halls, the Shaffer Hall years, the land bought on 29 June 1981, the building of Masjid Al-Rahmah, and the presidents, imams, and families who carried each of those steps.

Drawn from oral histories, archival documents, and published sources, it sets down the names, decisions, and sacrifices of the founders and of those who carried the work forward.

The printed edition, cover to cover, with page turns.

Every story is free to read on this site. Buying a copy supports the volunteer work behind it.
