Abid’s love for poetry is lifelong, tracing back to his first published work in Karachi’s “Jasarat” in 1978. His evocative verses and insightful articles have graced US-based Urdu newspapers for decades, reflecting his dedication to the arts and his appreciation for classical music and world travel.
In times of challenge, especially in the tense post-9/11 years, Abid stepped forward to unite South Asian and Middle Eastern communities, organizing the landmark interfaith congregation at the Islamic Society of Baltimore in September 2001. His gift for bringing people together helped ease fears and cultivate understanding at a crucial moment in history.
Ever the builder of bridges, Abid founded Muslim Citizens of Maryland (MCM), Qaasid News, and Ujaala Education System, amplifying voices and offering platforms for growth and connection. As President of the Baltimore County Muslim Council (2003–2007) and a longtime volunteer at the Islamic Society of Baltimore, he nurtured institutions like Al-Rahmah School and Masjid Al-Rahmah, contributing to the vibrant image that drew President Barack Obama for a historic visit in 2016.
Abid’s extensive participation in interfaith dialogue and civic engagement has earned him awards and citations from state and national leaders. Enriching his perspective further, he attended the FBI Citizens’ Academy in 2006, deepening his understanding of community relations and public service.
